Senior citizens to be vaccinated from Tuesday

800,000 population of people in age group of 60-64 years to be inoculated

The government has been making preparation for continuing the vaccination drive against COVID-19 from coming Tuesday.

As of 6:15 pm on Tuesday, June 1, 2021, a total of 2,113,080 people have been vaccinated against COVID-19 while 714,163 people have been administered the second dose of vaccines.

The drive to be continued from coming Tuesday targets to vaccinate people of 60-64 years age group.

The vaccination will be carried on with the vaccines Nepal has recently received from the Government of China on grant recently. According to the Ministry of Health and Population, the Government of China has provided 1 million doses of Vero cell, anti-COVID-19 vaccines manufactured in China. The vaccines arrived in the country from China’s Tibet in four batches on Tuesday.

Senior citizens will be administered the vaccine only after ensuring the booster dose of it. More, people above 18 years in the districts bordering China will also be vaccinated along with the senior citizens.

It has been estimated that there are around 800,000 population of people in the age group of 60-64 years eligible for the vaccine.

The Health Ministry has requested for carrying an official document either the citizenship or any document revealing age or a recommendation letter given by the respective ward offices while receiving vaccines.

Prior to this, Nepal has received one million doses of Covishield on grants from India, 800 thousand of Vero Cell from China and 348,000 doses under the COVAX facility. Besides, it had purchased additional one million doses of Covishield from India.
