The flood in Chaju River in Kamal Gaonpalika-5 of Jhapa has intensified the erosion around the area. Half a dozen houses are at high risk as the floods in the river along with the heavy rains since last night has intensified the erosion.
According to Ward Chairman Lal Bahadur Bista, half a dozen households around the river have to be relocated to safer places. He said that there was a danger of the river entering the settlement as the flood had destroyed the temporary embankment. Settlements in wards 1, 2, 5, 6 and 7 of Kamal are at risk of flooding and erosion, said village chairman Hukum Singh Rai. A team including technicians is immediately conducting necessary consultations on controlling the erosion of the river and pre-preparation for disaster management, said Rai.
