The District Administration Office (DAO), Sindhupalchowk, has issued a warning not to collect relief items and donations on the pretext of providing support to the families displaced by the floods and landslides.
The DAO has also extended gratitudes to various organisation, sectors, donors among other supporters who provided food and other relief items to the families displaced by the natural disaster.
However, the illegal activities of collecting foods and donations under the pretext of supporting the displaced families have also increased of late.
With the report of such activities taking place, the administration office has stated that action will be taken against those collecting donations and food on the pretext of providing support to the displaced families as per Section 24 (1) of the Disaster Risk Minimisation and Management Act, 2074 while those who were found involved in hiking the market price and creating artificial shortage of goods will be punished with a fine of Rs 100,000 or two years in prison or both as per Section 1 (Kha) of the above mention Act.
The DAO has also urged one and all to report the police of such activities or call the mobile phone no. 9841392883.
Meanwhile, people have been urged to stay alert as river flow has been increasing due to monsoon rain and may further cause landslides, floods and inundation and hazards to roads.
The landslide debris that fell from 500 metres above Nakutte in Helambu Rural Municipality-1 blocked Melamchi River and flooded the nearby settlements including Melamchi Bazaar as the blockage broke, on June 16. Meanwhile, a huge loss has been incurred in the catastrophe, the DAO informed. Three people have been killed in the natural disaster in the district while 20 others have gone missing in the flood.
