The Melauli municipality in Baitadi district has decided to increase the allowance as social security for single men or widower.
The municipality has been providing Rs 1,500 monthly to single men and now it has been increased to Rs 2,000 per month, the deputy Mayor Radha Ojha said.
The social security allowance provided since past three years is given to widower between 50 to 60 years old. "Single men also have to go through financial problems as single women do, hence we decided to include the men as well to help ease their daily livelihood, said Ojha.
There are currently 88 men who are benefitting from the single men allowance in Melauli. "The allowance has made our life easier," said Shanker Dutt Bhatt, a widower from ward no 9 of the municipality said.
Likewise, for the new fiscal year, the municipality has also increased social security allowance for orphan children. There are currently 19 children who lost both of their parents, and getting monthly social security allowance from the municipality.
