Six people from the same village died in a road accident on Friday evening at Bandipur village in Tanahu district.
Bandipur rural municipality chairperson Purnasingh Thapa said that the entire locality is deeply saddened by the demise of six persons on the eve of Maghe Sankranti.
The road accident occurred when a jeep (Ga 1 Ja 6555) fell around 100 meters off the road at Dharampani of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 in Tanahu. A Dharampani-bound jeep was coming from Sarangghat of the district. Four persons died on the spot while two others succumbed to injuries during treatment, said police.
Those killed in the road accidents were from Bokse and Hatiya village. Rural municipality chair Thapa said the accident that took place during the festival had immersed the entire rural municipality into tears.
The jeep driver is on the run after the accident. The police currently looking for him.
Meanwhile, eight injured passengers were sent to Bharatpur for further treatment, according to Thapa. Santa Bahadur Gurung, ward chair of Bandipur rural municipality ward no 6, shared that among the deceased, a mother and son also died in the accident.
The deceased were Hari Neupane,53, of Bandipur Rural Municipality-6 and 48-year-old Sushiladevi Neupane, Roshan Gurung, 24, and Bim Maya Gurung, 50, nine-month-old Aarubi Thapa and 48-year-old Santa Bahadur Gurung, as reported by the police.
