The Nepal-India border will be closed for three days in view of the local level election to be held on May 12.
According to Khagendra Bharti, information officer at the District Administration Office, Baitadi, the Jhulaghat border crossing with India will be closed from Monday. Considering the election security, the border will be closed from 12 noon on May 10 to 12 noon on May 12.
He said that the border checkpoints would be completely closed during that period. The checkpoint is being closed in coordination with Indian authorities. When an election is held in a country, the border is closed according to international law. Meanwhile, security in the border areas has been tightened in view of the election.
At 10 local levels of Baitadi, elections are being held for a total of 440 posts including 10 Palika chiefs, 10 deputy chiefs, 84 ward chairpersons and 336 ward members.
