Three people have been killed in 2 separate fire incidents in the Sarlahi district. The deceased have been identified as Laxmi, 8, daughter of Jogi Maharaki and Sugandhi, 3, of Kawilasi Municipality-7, Sirsiraya.
Both the girls succumbed to their injuries while being taken to Kathmandu for further treatment after minor treatment at the District Hospital, Malangwa, police said. About 60 to 70 percent of the bodies of the two girls were burnt when a fire broke out in their house while they were sleeping on a straw bed to remain warm in the cold.
Jogi Mahara himself and his five-year-old daughter Sudha sustained minor injuries in the blaze. All the belongings inside the house have been destroyed by the fire.
Similarly, an old man died in a fire at Khultuna of Malangwa-6 in the Sarlahi district. Nasir Khan, 70, who was critically injured in the fire, died at the District Hospital, Malangwa last night, said Deputy Superintendent of Police Madhav Prasad Budhathoki. According to Madina Khatun, wife of the deceased, the body caught fire while Nasir was drinking heavily. With the onset of winter, the number of fires in Sarlahi has increased in recent days.
