Three persons have died from rabies infection in Chaurideurali Rural Municipality-6 of Kavrepalanchok district within a month.

The victims of the viral disease, also called hydrophobia, include an eight-year-old boy in a village in the district within.

The deceased have been identified as Sushan Pahari (8), Subba Lama (44) and Tej Prasad Panta (80), all the residents of Chaurideurali Rural Municipality-6, the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Expert Centre in Kavre informed.

According to the hospital, 22-year-old Radha Krishna Magar of Dhulikhel Municipality-1 had also died from the same viral infection about five months ago. Magar had tested positive for the infection after a dog bit him while working to rescue a dog from drainage.

It has been reported that the dog bites caused the death of all four.

A few months ago, a cow also died of rabies in Dhulikhel after a dog bit it.

After the report of three recent deaths due to rabies, the rural municipality has urged the locals to take precautions against stray dogs.

The veterinary hospital has said that it had sent 200 doses of anti-rabies vaccines in Chaurideurali after the dogs there were detected with the rabies infection.

Chief of the Centre, Dr Mogal Prasad Shah, said that some 3,000 stray dogs in Banepa, Dhulikhel and Panauti municipalities were vaccinated after the detection of rabies in the area.

It is said that the dogs in all 13 local levels of Kavre would be vaccinated and the sterilization programme will be gradually expanded to avert the possible risk of contracting hydrophobia.
