A total of 12 children in a village in Parbat have been found to be infected with the coronavirus. All the children are residents of Chuwa in Kushma Municipality-8. Though the number of children being infected with COVID-19 in the past had been pretty low in the district, in the past week this number has risen significantly.
According to Ward Chairperson Raj Kumar Chhetri, the children who have been infected with the coronavirus are between the ages of 13 months and 11 years. He informed that after the children developed fever and started suffering from cold and cough a PCR test was conducted of all the concerned children and the results were positive.
Chhetri mentioned that there are fears that since such a large number of children were infected within a week a new variant of the virus could have infected them. He added though the new infections have been termed as the third wave of the coronavirus the swab samples of the children have been forwarded to the provincial health directorate of Gandaki Province for further tests to determine the variant.
