Police on Friday arrested two men with 4 kilograms and 21.49 grams of gold from Ranjha Airport in Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-20, Banke district.
The arrested duo has been identified as Amir Lagun Bishwokarma (26) of Khadunabari-6, Jhapa district, and Buddhiman Khati (28) of Letang-2, Morang district.
The duo landed at Nepalgunj from Kathmandu via Shree Airlines. The police recovered the four gold biscuits from Bishwokarma. He was hiding it inside his shoes.
Subsequently, the police also seized two sets of biscuits from Khati's possession from his shoe sole. The police also confiscated a necklace, bracelet, and five lord Ganesh locket weighing around 27.49 grams from Khati's bag. They were caught smuggling yellow metal during a routine check.
In total, the police seized six raw gold biscuits weighing three kilograms and 994 grams.
Despite heightened security at the airport, people are smuggling gold and other materials openly.
Meanwhile, further investigation into the case is underway, said Banke District Police Office.
