The United Nations was established on 24 October 1945. The UN Day is being marked today in Nepal as the country's grand festival Dashain coincidently falls on the same day.

A special programme is to be held at the NA headquarters today itself to mark the UN Day on the presence of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Defense Purna Bahadur Khadka, Minister for Foreign Affairs NP Saud, security agencies' chiefs, officials of diplomatic missions in Nepal, chiefs and representatives of different offices.

It may be noted that Nepal's participation in the UN peacekeeping mission has spanned over six decades.

During the period, a total of 146,623 Nepali peacekeepers have participated in 44 UN missions.

Various agencies, including the UN have been lauding Nepal\s honest performance in peacekeeping missions.

Nepal is in second rank in deploying the largest number of peacekeepers in such international missions. ---
