UN grant two and a half billion to Nepal for electric stoves

The Ministry of Energy, Water Resources, and Irrigation's alternative energy promotion center will receive grant funding to promote electric stoves. The United Nations' Green Climate Fund (GCF) will provide a subsidy of 20 million 11 million 20 thousand dollars (about 2 billion 55 million rupees). The center's spokesperson, Navraj Dhakal, stated that the two agencies had reached an agreement on this.

According to the Ministry of Finance, an agreement has been reached to promote electric stoves, especially in the Terai region of Nepal. According to this proposal, which was approved last year, the program will now be implemented.

A contract has been inked for the first phase of the program, which will give electric stoves to around 1 million families. Approximately 5 lakh homes would receive electric stoves in the first phase. There is also a plan to build 10,000 biogas plants as part of this.

The program will be implemented in collaboration with the Terai region's municipalities and rural municipalities by the alternative energy promotion center.

The Nepalese government has recently promoted electric stoves in order to reduce fuel usage while increasing power consumption.

The executive director of the institution signed the agreement on behalf of the Nepalese government. Madhusudhan Adhikari and German Velasquez, Directors of the GCF's Mitigation and Adaptation Division, were represented by Veronica Galmez.

Dr. According to the official, the project will boost Nepal's efforts to transition to clean fuel and cooking technologies. This program intends to cut carbon emissions by 6.51 million tonnes.

"A significant reduction in the consumption of wood for fuel will help improve health and create more employment opportunities, especially for women and vulnerable communities," he said.

The government has declared that one electric stove will be supplied as a subsidy to one family at the local level through the budget. Electric stoves will be offered to all household power customers, according to an announcement made to increase electricity consumption and LP gas imports.

According to the Nepal Electricity Authority, there are currently about 43 lakh 30 thousand household electricity customers.
