Finance Minister Janardhan Sharma has said the government will take forward the vaccination drive against the coronavirus and economic recovery efforts simultaneously to help the country’s economy which has been devastated by the COVID-19 pandemic recover.
The finance minister, however, mentioned there must be national agreement among all concerned to help the economy that has been battered by the pandemic recover. He further added to resolve a national emergency there must be mutual agreement among all stakeholders and he would be open to all creative ideas to help the country get back on the road to development.
In a meeting with former finance ministers in Kathmandu today, Minister Sharma informed that the government will focus on investing in the vaccination campaign which is at the top of the government’s priority list. Citing that the economy will be able to fully recover from the impact of the coronavirus pandemic only when all citizens have been vaccinated, he stated the government is fully focused on vaccinating the citizens as early as possible.
He added the economy will gather pace along with the vaccination drive. The newly-appointed minister mentioned the economy can easily gather momentum once this medical emergency is over and the government is putting in all its efforts for that. Minister Sharma shared the government will divert funds from the development budget to purchase vaccines if necessary so that the country’s economy can be revived.
