Police in Mahottari district today made public four persons arrested for their alleged involvement in the murder of a woman.

The deceased has been identified as Sujita Thakur (26) of Bhramarapura in Loharpatti Municipality-7. She was killed in her room on June 3 last month.

Police arrested the deceased's brother-in-law Rupesh Thakur (31) and his three accomplices including Kishori Mandal (37), Adam Rain (33) and Nathani Mandal (32). The accomplices had helped in carrying away the body and burying it, according to police.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Dinesh Acharya at Mahottari District Police Office (DPO) was quoted in Rastriya Samachar Samiti as saying that Thakur has confessed that he killed his sister-in-law by punching her face, banging her head on the wall of the room and strangling her to death in the morning of June 3.

Subsequently, he put the body of Sujita on the bed and locked the room from outside. It was only at 9:00 pm that he transferred the body onto a tractor and carried it away one kilometre southeast, police said and added that Thakur buried the body in the land owned by the deceased woman's father-in-law Patiram Thakur. When police and locals started searching the disappeared woman, Thakur further removed the body and carried it to another place near a fuel station along Bhramarapura-Janakpur road section and buried her on June 12, police informed and added that Thakur had dug 13 feet in the land owned by the Patiram Thakur to bury the body which was later topped with a concrete slab.

During the investigation, police recovered the putrefying body at 10:00 am on July 11.

Meanwhile, police have carried on with the investigation into the murder case while the search is on for others who were involved in the case, DSP Acharya said.

Police have yet to establish the exact motivation behind the murder.
