The Nepali Congress has expressed grief over the demise of freedom fighter Tilak Prasad Sapkota. Congress Central Office Secretary Prakash Sharma issued a condolence statement here today, expressing grief over the demise of 77-year-old Sapkota, a resident of Gaindakot-8, Nawalparasi (Bardghat Susta East).
Sapkota was a candidate of Nepali Congress from Nawalparasi constituency No. 2 in the general elections of 2048. He also worked in various organizational positions of the party. Sapkota served a jail term during the movement and struggle for the establishment and restoration of democracy in Nepal.
The party has also said in the statement it has lost a senior and experienced leader in the demise of Sapkota, who was also popular as an educational and social campaigner.
Nepali Congress President and Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba has expressed deep sorrow over Sapkota's death. "The news of the demise of Sapkota, a tireless warrior of Nepal's democratic movement, has shocked and saddened me. Sapkota's active contribution to building the party organization and the democratic movement of Nepal will always be remembered," Deuba said.
Paying heartfelt tributes to the deceased, the NC President has also expressed his deepest condolences to the bereaved family members.
