The counting of votes for the post of General Secretary under the 14th General Convention of the Nepali Congress is about to begin. According to the Congress constitution, the election for the two general secretaries of the Central Working Committee was held on Monday.
The counting of votes will start from 9 am today at the party office, Sanepa, according to the Congress Central Election Committee. Gagan Kumar Thapa, Dr Prakash Sharan Mahat, Pradip Poudel, Dr Minendra Rijal, Dr Rajaram Karki and Bishwaprakash Sharma are the candidates.
4 thousand 6 hundered 79 out of 4 thousand 7 hundered 43 voters had cast their votes in Monday's polling. Voting was held for 134 posts including office bearers and members of the Congress Central Working Committee. Prime Minister and party president Sher Bahadur Deuba has been re-elected as the party's president.
The counting of votes for other posts besides the chairperson has started at the NC Central Office, Sanepa. Similarly, Purna Bahadur Khadka and Dhanraj Gurung have been elected for the two vice-presidential posts on Wednesday. There is an arrangement to elect one chairperson, two deputy chairpersons, two general secretaries, eight joint general secretaries and eight joint general secretaries from among the office bearers of the NC Central Working Committee. The treasurer will be elected from among the elected central members.
