The Communist Party of Nepal (Unified) has been registered at the Election Commission as a new political party of the country. The application to register the new party had been filed by youth leader Jeevan Rai who is considered to be close to the senior leader of CPN UML, Madhav Kumar Nepal.
Rai received a certificate of the new party being registered from the Election Commission today. Rai, who was previously a leader of the All Nepal National Free Students Union, the student wing of CPN UML, had filed the application on April 20.
A meeting of the Election Commission held on June 13 had decided to register CPN (Unified) as a new political party. Rai is the chairperson of the new party and its party symbol is a pen. Meanwhile, Kalpana Gurung is the vice-president of the party with Binod Khulal as its general secretary.
Similarly, Ain Bikram Kunwar is the secretary and Sushil khanal is the treasurer of the CPN (Unified). The working committee of the party comprises of 25 members.
