The Dahal-Nepal faction of Nepal Communist Party (NCP) has elected party Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal as the parliamentary party (PP) leader.
A meeting of the NCP's parliamentary party held on Friday unanimously picked Dahal as the PP leader, chief whip of the PP Dev Prasad Gurung said.
The meeting was presided over by senior member of the House of Representatives Jhalanath Khanal.
Former prime minister and party's another chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal proposed for Dahal's election to the post of PP leader while Member of Parliament Pampha Bhusal seconded the proposal.
Earlier, the faction had removed Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli from the post of NCP's PP leader.
The PP meeting was held today after 25 per cent of the party's lawmakers put forth their demand for the PP meeting. Chief whip Gurung said that today's meeting was held at the request of 25 per cent of lawmakers as the PP had no leader and deputy leader.
The meeting has condemned the government's decision to dissolve the House of Representatives (HoR) on 20 December 2020 and applauded the Supreme Court's order to restore the HoR.
Gurung said that the meeting has thanked different political parties, civil society, professionals, media persons and all other frontlines for their protest against the HoR dissolution.
Likewise, the meeting has sought the PM's resignation as the court concluded the PM's move to dissolve the parliament as unconstitutional.
The meeting has also welcomed the consensus deal signed between the government and the Communist Party of Nepal led by Netra Bikram Chand.
Similarly, the meeting has expressed grief to the loss caused due to fire that occurred in Taplejung while seeking due compensation from the government side to the affected ones.
