Chief Minister of Gandaki Province, Krishna Chandra Nepali Pokhrel, has won the vote of confidence at the National Assembly today. Pokhrel had registered the notice regarding the vote of confidence at the secretariat of the National Assembly on Tuesday.
Pokhrel received 31 votes in his favour. There are 59 members in the National Assembly.
Pokhrel, who had been appointed chief minister on June 12, had to win the vote of confidence within 30 days as per Article 168 (5) of the Constitution of Nepal. The chief minister had decided to face the vote of confidence today itself so that the government could move ahead with its work.
Chief Minister Pokhrel will form the Council of Ministers now. He had mentioned earlier that he would appoint ministers only after the vote of confidence is over so that there is no issue among members of the four parties that have formed a coalition government. After former Chief Minister Prithvi Subba Gurung lost the vote of confidence Chief of Gandaki Province Sita Kumari Poudel had appointed Pokhrel as chief minister.
