Acting Chief Justice Hari Krishna Karki has said that the judicial committees at the local levels should give more focus on mediation during justice delivery.
In his address to the concluding session of the national conference of the judicial committees held in the Capital City on Thursday, CJ Karki stated that the trend of taking the disputes to court would be reduced if the judicial committees worked with full responsibility.
"Justice for the Humla folks is more difficult if they have to come all the way to Kathmandu. In such circumstances, the judicial committee should be responsible," he added.
Karki expressed the confidence that the justice delivery from the local level would be further effective after the national conference.
Also speaking at the event, Deputy Mayor of Kathmandu Metropolitan City Sunita Dangol expressed the hope that the conference would bring about positive changes in justice delivery.
On the occasion, Deputy Mayor of Nagarjun Municipality of Kathmandu Sushila Adhikari and Vice-Chairperson of Jhimruk Rural Municipality of Pyuthan Pramod Pokharel expressed their views on the justice delivery efforts being made by the local level.
The two-day conference concluded on Thursday by issuing an 11-point Kathmandu Declaration.
The conference has also formed the national-level, province-level and district-level networks as well.
