Nepal Workers and Peasants’ Party (NWPP) Chair Narayan Man Bijukchhe has accused political parties and leaders of overlooking people’s expectations.

During an inaugural session of a four-day sports event here today, the leader said the politics were marred by an unhealthy battle and there was a difference in objectives and behaviour of political personalities

The four-day inter-town chess competition and Bhaktapur municipal level school sports tournament is organised by the Bhaktapur Municipality on the occasion of Martyrs’ Day.

“Political personalities have become less concerned about civic sentiments,’’ said Bijukchhe. He was of the view of utilizing sports as a means of promoting the nation’s image. “It is a must for physical fitness.’’

Similarly, Mayor Sunil Prajapati said the local government wanted to promote its identity through the exploration of chess and the event aimed to motivate its players.

Bagmati Province Assembly member Surendra Raj Goasai said political parties brought no positive changes to people’s lives in thirty years and hunger and violence remained as it is in the rural areas.

Twenty-two municipalities have taken part in the chess tournament.
