The silence period of the local level election is starting from midnight today. The period from midnight today to midnight on the day of polling is considered as a period of silence. The Election Commission has urged all not to be involved in any act affecting the election during this period.
Election Commission Spokesperson Shalikram Poudel said that after the start of the silence period, any party, candidate, civil society, voter and the media will not be allowed to campaign.
The Election Commission has also banned the use of electronic media such as SMS, Facebook and Viber to solicit votes and conduct election campaigns.
According to Poudel the political parties have also been instructed to remove the propaganda material from social media. Police and army cyber bureaus have been tasked with monitoring whether election materials have been removed or whether new campaign materials have been kept.
The commission has also banned the use or display of symbolic materials such as hats, stickers, logos, bags with election symbols of candidates or political parties.
According to the Election Commission, before the start of the silence period, the election symbols and propaganda materials placed around 300 meters of the polling station will have to be removed.
The commission has stated that the media will not be allowed to broadcast any news or information during the silence period to promote candidates or political parties.
