The CPN (UML), Lumbini Province, has proposed Shankar Pokharel as the candidate for chief minister from the party. A meeting of the CPN (UML) parliamentary party held in Butwal today agreed to propose party standing committee member Pokahrel again as the chief minister, according to party chief whip Bhumishwor Dhakal. Pokharel resigned as chief minister of the province earlier today.
The Nepali Congress and CPN (Maoist Centre) had filed a no-confidence motion against him a few days back. According to Dhakal, the party will claim for the formation of a single majority government of the party and the (new) government will be formed in accordance with Article 168 (1) of the constitution.
Pokharel is expected to be re-appointed and sworn-in as the chief minister today itself. Appointments of other ministers will be made later. The 81-member Lumbini Province Assembly has 41 members from the CPN (UML), 19 from Nepali Congress, 17 from the CPN (Maoist Centre), two from Janata Samajbadi Party and one from Janamorcha Nepal.
