The five-party ruling coalition and main opposition CPN (UML) both registered wins in National Assembly elections in Province-1. According to Chief Election Officer, Bharat Lamsal, in the six-hour-long polling that started from 9:00 am, 270 heads and deputy heads of local governments and 91 Provincial Assembly members voted for the three posts representing the province in the NA.
Voting weightage for head and deputy head and state assembly members are 18 and 48 respectively.
From the ruling coalition, Jayanti Rai representing women category defeated CPN (UML) candidate Sumitra Bhandari. Rai got 4,652 votes while Bhandari obtained 4,362 votes. In minority/differently-abled category, CPN (UML)'s Sonam Galgyan Sherpa defeated People's Socialist Party candidate Hemraj Rai. Sherpa obtained 4,734 vote while Rai's vote count was 4,368.
The open category resulted in a tie of 4488 each by Nepali Congress candidate Gopal Basnet and CPN (UML)'s Guru Baral. However, in the lucky draw, Basnet turned lucky winning the seat from open category.
