The Supreme Court (SC) has decided to deliver its final verdict regarding the legality of the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) on coming Sunday.

The divisional bench of Justice Bom Kumar Shrestha and Kumar Regmi were scheduled to deliver the verdict last Thursday but all courts across the country were closed to mourn the passing away of former Chief Justice Surendra Prasad Singh. Hence, the decision to deliver the verdict on the same has been rescheduled for March 7.

Earlier, a writ petition was filed by Nepal Communist Party (NCP) Chairperson Rishiram Kattel claiming the party’s official name to be his. The apex court of the country had already delivered its verdict on the same.

Kattel had also registered a complaint at the Election Commission of Nepal regarding NCP legality but the Commission had decided in the favour of NCP helmed by KP Sharma Oli and Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’. Kattel then had filed a writ petition at the SC on December 6, 2020, against the ECN’s decision.
