The first meeting of the seventh session of the reinstated House of Representatives (HoR) has begun today.
President Bidya Devi Bhandari summoned for the HoR meeting in accordance with the Supreme Court's order to call for the meeting of the Lower House within 13 days.
President Bhandari on December 20 had approved the Prime Minister KP Sharma Oki-led Cabinet to dissolve the HoR. The head of the state had also announced the mid-term polls for April and May. Subsequently, multiple writ petitions were filed against the dissolution of the HoR at the SC. The hearing on the writ petitions began on January 17.
The Supreme Court on February 23 delivered its verdict in favour of the reinstatement of the HoR.
Further, the Constitutional Bench of the Supreme Court led by Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher JB Rana and including five Justices issued order in the name of President Bhandari, Prime Minister Oli and the Speaker of the House, Agni Prasad Sapkota to reinstate the HoR and to call for the HoR session within 13 days.
