Mahanta Thakur, Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal (JSP), has called a meeting of party leaders of his faction. The meeting will be held at 1 pm in Babar Mahal.
The meeting will hold discussions on ways to move forward after the Supreme Court issued an interim order repealing the appointment of ministers by Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. The Thakur faction had 10 lawmakers who had been appointed as ministers in the Oli Cabinet including two state ministers.
The Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal is on the verge of a split after differences surfaced within the party on whether or not to support the government led by PM Oli. Though Thakur was in favour of supporting Oli and did so, Upendra Yadav, another Chairperson of the party was against it. In fact, Yadav had even sought clarifications from lawmakers who had been appointed ministers.
The two factions are also in a tussle at the Election Commission regarding which faction’s decision is valid and whose is not.
