The largest party in the federal parliament. Prime Minister and party chairman Sher Bahadur Deuba and party general minister Gagan Kumar Thapa have been nominated for the leader of the parliamentary party.
Voting has been arranged at the office premises of Congress Parliamentary Party at Singh Darbar from 8 am to 10 am. The "Leader of the Parliamentary Party and Working Committee Election Committee '' of the Congress said that after the voting is over, the counting of votes and the election results will be announced today. The voters of this election are members of the House of Representatives of the party.
In the House of Representatives elections held on November 4, Congress won 89 seats with 57 direct seats and 32 proportional seats. The committee said that voters should bring the certificate of their election with them when they come to vote.
Senior leader Ramchandra Paudel and supporting party deputy chairman Purna Bahadur Khadka have proposed the candidacy of Chairman Deuba. Likewise, leader Dr. Shekhar Koirala, who proposed the candidature of General Minister Thapa, and the supporters included Deputy Chairman Dhanraj Gurung, General Minister Vishwaprakash Sharma and central member Pradeep Paudel. The committee fixed the time for filing nominations on Tuesday from 2:00 pm to 3:00 pm.
This election is considered important as the leader of the parliamentary party in the Congress is the party's candidate for the prime minister. Article 40 of the Constitution of the Congress has provisions regarding parliamentary parties. In sub-section (2), it is mentioned that the members of the House of Representatives in the parliamentary party shall elect the leader of the parliamentary party from among themselves.
After the final result of the House of Representatives election, with the call from President Bidya Devi Bhandari for the formation of a new government, the Congress, as the largest party in the Parliament, has started the initiative to form a new government under its own leadership.
