The opposition parties will be filing a writ petition against the President’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives on Monday.
The opposition lawmakers will file a writ asking the Supreme Court to annul the president’s move to dissolve the House of Representatives and reinstate the House. The writ was supposed to have been filed today but since preparations got delayed the opposition members have said they will file the writ tomorrow.
President Bidhya Devi Bhandari on the recommendation of Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli and the Council of Ministers had dissolved the House of Representatives on May 22 and announced the dates for mid-term elections.
The mid-term elections are scheduled to be held in two phases on November 12 and 19.
Nepali Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, CPM (Maoist Centre) Chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal (Prachanda), senior leader of CPN UML Madhav Kumar Nepal, Chairperson of Janata Samajbadi Party-Nepal Upendra Yadav, and Durga Paudel of Rastriya Janamorcha had earlier issued a joint statement saying that the president and prime minister had collaborated in overriding the provisions of the Constitution and killing the Parliament.
