The All Nepal Table Tennis Association (ANTTA) has started “Women’s Junior Table Tennis Training program 2021” with the slogan, “My Gender, My Strength”.
The training campaign is being conducted under the International Table Tennis Federation (ITTF)’s Pilot project. ITTF is holding such training programs in 15 different countries including Nepal in the same dates with the plan to encourage budding female players.
The 7 day training campaign was inaugurated on 23rd October with the presence of Kul Bahadur Thapa, the administrative head of National Sports Council. The training campaign is being held in Kathmandu and in Biratnagar simultaneously which will last up to 29th October. The event is being conducted with the co-ordination of Dharma Man Bajracharya, the first Vice-President of ANTTA.
Around 80 female players of u-18 age group are training under the program, informed national coach Rajendra Kapali.
In Kathmandu, the training is going on in National Table Tennis Training Center, Lainchaur from 4 to 6 pm in the evening informed Kapali. Around 40 girls from Kathmandu, Bhaktapur, Lalitpur, Kavre etc are in training. “Muna Basukala and Sandhya Sakya; former international players are guiding the players”, informed Kapali.
While, in Biratnagar the training is being conducted by Biken Thapa, former national at Biratnagar Table Tennis training center. More than 40 girls are in the training program where girls from Dharan, Morang and other nearby areas are being trained.
“Such programs are very important to encourage the next generation of players and ANTTA is working very hard to bring such events”, informed Kapali.
