In the seventh edition of Birat Gold Cup, the host Biratnagar City has entered the semi-finals.
In the match at Sahid Rangshala, Biratnagar secured a place in the last four after defeating the former champions Nepal Police Club by 1-0 goals. Both teams played a goalless game for the scheduled time. Ashish Shrestha of Biratnagar scored the decisive goal in extra time. He scored a goal by making good use of the pass given by Diwakar Chaudhary. Shrestha entered the field in place of Sagar Thapa.
Police kept Biratnagar under pressure until the first half. Although the police had some excellent opportunities, they were unable to score. Police Club won the Birat Gold Cup in 2074. Utsav Rai of Biratnagar was declared the man of the match. He won a prize of Rs. 25 thousand.
Eight teams from Nepal, India and Bhutan are participating in the Gold Cup which will be held till 16th of Chait. Nagesh Koirala, head of Biratnagar Metropolitan Municipality and coordinator of the Gold Cup informed that the winner will receive Rs 20 lakh 15 thousand and the runner-up will receive Rs 10 lakh 25 thousand. The Mahendra Gold Cup was started in the year 2018 in the name of the then King Mahendra Shah. Since 2057, the tournament has been running as Birat Gold Cup. The co-coordinator of Birat Gold Cup, Suwashish Koirala, informed that a match will be played betweenN Nepal Army Football Club and Jawalakhel Youth Club today.
