Danish midfielder Eriksen conscious in hospital after collapsing at Euro 2020

Denmark's star midfielder Christian Eriksen collapsed while playing and was given CPR by medics during his side's Euro 2020 soccer match with Finland on Saturday, and the game has been suspended.

Eriksen is said to have raised his hand as he was carried from the pitch on a stretcher. He was rushed to the nearby Rigshospitalet.


The Danish DBU football association has confirmed on Twitter that Eriksen's situation is stable.

The crowd greeted the news that Eriksen had been taken to hospital by chanting his name.

It has been reported that a decision about whether or not to restart the game will be announced later.

Eriksen had collapsed suddenly in the 42nd minute of the match while running near the left touchline after a Denmark throw-in. Teammates Martin Braithwaite and Thomas Delaney rushed to assist him, with Delaney beckoning furiously for medical assistance.

Denmark star midfielder received urgent medical attention after collapsing on the field. Medical staff immediately rushed the field and performed CPR in an attempt to resuscitate Eriksen. Denmark players formed a circle around the medical staff in a bid for privacy.

Eriksen was given treatment for about 10 minutes after collapsing on the field before being carried off on a stretcher. UEFA then announced the game had been suspended "due to a medical emergency.

The game was scoreless when Eriksen, who plays his club soccer for Inter Milan in Italy, collapsed.
