As a decision was made by Cricket Association of Nepal (CAN) to execute Gyanendra Malla from the captaincy of the national cricket team and other three players, cricket fans are not happy.
After becoming aware of the situation, Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba himself called CAN president Chatur Bahadur Chand and expressed concern over the situation.
Chairman of the CPN-Maoist Center Pushpa Kamal Dahal met PM Deuba at the PM's residence in Baluwatar today.to talk about the alleged action taken against the cricketers.
A board meeting of CAN on Wednesday dismissed Gyanendra Malla as the captain and Dipendra Singh Airee as the vice-captain of the national team. CAN had decided not to allow four players: Gyanendra Malla, Dipendra Singh Airee, Sompal Kami and Kamal Singh Airee to participate in the 2022 Central Contract for the first six months as per the recommendation of the investigation committee formed by the association.
Similarly, Sandeep Lamichhane was selected as the new captain of the team however four board members of the CAN had different views about the decision.
Talking about the decision, Captain Malla, who was sacked, says that he took it as revenge. He adds, after receiving a collective response from the players, he had informed CAN about a mistake in the grade division and that the missing players should be included in the central contract.
"If the media are punished for presenting the truth and problems on behalf of the players, there is no need to say anything," he told the media.
Many have opposed CAN's decision saying how Nepali cricket team has achieved a lot in a short period of time. They left a mark with their achievements in the world.
