President Bidya Devi Bhandari has said the state should pay a special focus on sports, a means for not only the physical and mental development of people but also for helping with the country's development as a whole.
Distributing trophies and certificates to the winners of the open women's golf tournament organised at the Royal Nepal Golf Club on Saturday, the President said, "Our country carries a big potentiality for golf reasoning its geographical structure and a favourable environment. So this will help ease the development of sport tourism and attract international athletes through the promotion of sports."
She stressed the need for both government and private sectors to pour in sufficient investments in sports. In the one-day tournament, Sushma Sigdel won the title. She received a scooter, Rs 50,000 in cash and various other presents. First runner-up Kasmira Shah got Rs 30,000 in cash and various gifts.
In the senior category, Rekha Ghimire won the title. She received Rs 50,000 in cash and first runner-up Kalyani Moktan Rs 30,000 in cash.
Similarly, in the junior category, winner Aistina Tandan got Rs 30,000 in cash and first runner-up Soni Tamang Rs 20,000 in cash. A total of 34 golfers took part in the tournament.
