Himalayan 100 Chess Tournament in Kathmandu

On the occasion of International Chess Day (July 20th), Himalayan Chess Academy in collaboration with Yukti Foundation will organize 'Himalayan 100' blitz chess tournament at King's College, Babarmahal on Saturday.

The World Chess Federation (FIDE) is also celebrating its 100th anniversary.

On this occasion, on July 20 this year, FIDE is on a campaign to set the 'Guinness World Records' by playing the most chess within 24 hours, which it has named FIDE 100 Guinness World Records Attempt. Monalisha Khambu, founder president of Himalayan Chess Academy, said that under this campaign of FIDE, 'Himalayan 100' is going to be organized in Nepal.

Khambu, who is also Nepal's first female national chess champion, said, 'When FIDE is setting a world record on the occasion of 100 years, we are going to organize Himalayan 100 to support that campaign from Nepal as well.

100 players will compete in the tournament which will be conducted in 10 rounds based on the Swiss system.''

Yukti Lama Shrestha, the representative of Yukti Foundation, says, 'It is a pleasure to cooperate with the global campaign to create Guinness World Records by playing chess. We want to attract people from a young age to chess, a game that is directly connected with the intellectual development of people.

The winner of the competition, which has a total prize of 51,500 rupees, will get 10,000, the runner-up will get 7,000, the third place will get 4,000, the fourth place will get 3,000 and the fifth place will get 2,000. Likewise, the players who are not in the top 10 from sixth will get 1000 each.

The women's winner will receive 3,000, the runner-up will receive 2,000 and the third runner-up will receive 1,000. Similarly, 11 categories including Unrated, U-9, U-11, U-13, U-15, Best HCA, Best Student (up to Class 10 and above), Rating below 1700, Below1900 and Veteran (above 55 years) are also included. Himalayan Chess Academy is going to organize Himalayan 100 as the second tournament. He had previously organized the SEE Cup.
