Sankata Club Kathmandu defeated home team Bhadrapur Blazers 1-0 to book a place in the semi-finals of the first Mustang-Bhadrapur-Jhapa Gold Cup football tournament.
In the quarter-final match held today at local Mechi Stadium, Sankata's Manish Dangi scored the only decisive goal of the match in the 5th minute of the first half.
Despite good home support, Bhadrapur Blazers could not capitalize on more than a dozen opportunities for a goal throughout the game. After the early goal, Sankata played a defensive game to ensure a win.
Goalkeeper Takendra Singh Thapa of Sankata was declared the player of the match. He won a cash prize of Rs 20,000.
Wednesday's quarter-final match will be played between Church Boys United and Machhindra Club of Kathmandu.
