The member secretary, who is considered the executive head of the National Sports Council, Nepal's highest sports body, has been absent for about two months. The work of the council is being affected and a writ has been filed in the Supreme Court regarding the appointment of member secretary.
Currently, all sports activities are stalled due to his absence. The budget has not been implemented due to non-implementation of development programs and projects of the current year. The council has not been able to pay the tariffs for essential services such as electricity, water and telephone services. Player wages and allowances are withheld. The training of the players has been hampered as well.
The amount of due monthly salaries of the staff and trainers has not been paid for two months. Retired employees have been denied benefits. The training competition and participation of the players have been completely affected.
The staff union of the National Sports Council has demanded the Supreme Court to rule on the issue immediately to prevent further damage to the sports sector.
