German energy giant RWE said Tuesday that it will phase out the burning of coal by 2030, saving 280 million metric tons of climate-changing greenhouse gas emissions.
The Baihetan Dam is part of Chinese efforts to curb surging fossil fuel demand by building more hydropower capacity when dams have fallen out of favor in other countries due to environmental complaints.
