Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has stressed the need of safeguarding the rights institutionalized by the Constitution of the country and play creative roles for more rights.
Stating that the Constitution of Nepal has institutionalized many rights regarding identity and rights, PM Dahal called for further creative efforts to gain more rights.
Addressing the Maghi celebration organized by the Tharu community at Tundikhel in Kathmandu today, PM Dahal argued that the current constitution is the document of consensus among political forces in the country and thus cautioned all Nepalis towards the prospects of losing the present day’s achievements for not being able to protect and strengthen them.
During his address, the PM said, “Although the current constitution has addressed important demands of various oppressed communities, ethnic communities and gender, it has not been able to guarantee absolute rights to one and all in a judicious manner. For this, we must take more creative initiatives for achieving more rights and to safeguard and strengthen the current ones.”
Stating that the Tharu community in the country was famed for being hardworking and honest, the PM asserted that this community has positively inspired other communities for labour culture and nation-building.
The PM observed, “Your cultures and traditions have been based on agriculture and labour culture which has transformed the fertile land of Nepal into a land of immeasurable opportunities. Therefore, your hard work and efforts has been an important foundation for entire nation-building bid. We are observing Maghi Parva, the biggest one for you all Tharu as a part of the promotion and development of those cultures you upheld.”
The PM, acknowledging the important role played by the Tharu community in the political movements in the country, lauded that the Tharu community had hugely struggled and scarified for the movement aimed at establishing federal democratic republican system in the country.”
According to him, the Tharu Commission has been furnishing recommendations to the government for formulating policies related to the Tharu community and has been assessing and monitoring the policies and programmes run by the government for the welfare of the this community. “The Commission has been launching awareness drive for empowerment of the Tharu community,” he added.
He expressed his confidence that this festival would inspire all to focus on the national aspirations and priorities such as social justice, good-governance and prosperity.
On the occasion, various cultural processions related to Tharu community were organized.
