Deputy Prime Minister and Home Minister Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said the prisons should be turned into correction centres.
DPM Shrestha said it while inaugurating a prison building here Sunday. “Irrespective of the past activities, the inmates should not be suppressed but given atmosphere to live a human life,” he said, suggesting that meditation could be conducted for the inmates.
Government’s priorities at present are good governance, prosperity and social justice, DPM Shrestha reminded.
According to him, a bill on integration of police was prepared.
The Home Minister further said government would not quit the anti-corruption campaign. “Some positive changes were made, but they are yet to meet present expectations,” Shrestha admitted.
Moreover, he wondered why the cooperatives were digressing from their objectives. Cooperatives must not be like banks, he added.
The prison building is constructed at a cost of Rs 44 million. The building is capacious for total 210 prisoners.
