Hydropower project machine malfunctions, body washed away
Salleri (Solukhumbu), Jan 27: A machine of Likhu II hydropower project suddenly shut down leading to a rise in waterflow in the river today. And a body being cremated was washed away.
The body of 32-year-old Jhapad Bahadur Thapa of Umakunda rural municipality-1 of Ramechhap, that was being cremated on the Likhu river bank, said Ramechhap district police office. The body has gone missing.
According to Chief of Ramechhap Police, DSP Hom Bahadur Parajuli when the water of the dam returned to the river the dead body that was being cremated was washed away and disappeared.
Chief District Officer of Solukhumbu Devi Pandey Khatri said that although the incident site is in Ramechhap, as it is the border of Solukhumbu, a police team has been deployed from Police Station in Kinja.
According to the information officer of the project, Deepak Nepal, the incident happened when the electric machine suddenly stopped functioning and the water towards the dam returned to the river itself.
