KATHMANDU: Supporters and members of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) held a protest in Pokhara in response to the arrest of their Chairman, Rabi Lamichhane.

The demonstration took place in front of the District Police Office Kaski on Saturday.

Chairman Lamichhane, who was brought to Pokhara last night, is currently in custody at the District Police Office Kaski.

The RSP alleges that Lamichhane, a former home minister, was arrested as part of political revenge.

The party has announced plans for additional demonstrations against political retaliation in Chipledhunga, Pokhara, as well as at Maitighar in Kathmandu.

Lamichhane was detained on Saturday evening at the RSP’s central office in Kathmandu before being transported to Pokhara later that night.

According to the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police, his arrest is linked to an investigation involving fraud and organized crime connected to the Suryadarshan Savings and Loan Cooperative Society Limited in Pokhara. With today being a public holiday, police officials have indicated that Lamichhane will be presented in court tomorrow.
