Maoist Center plans nationwide protest rallies
The main opposition party, the Maoist Centre, has unveiled plans to conduct protest rallies and assemblies focused on the government across the country.
At a rally on Exhibition Road in Kathmandu on Saturday, party leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal “Prachanda”, announced their intention to extend these assemblies to all regions of Nepal.
Dahal indicated that they are working on a schedule to organize similar gatherings at the grassroots level within the party. “We will distribute assembly programs to every municipality and ward nationwide,” he stated.
Prachanda questions lack of investigation into ruling party leaders in fraud case
Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the Chair of the Maoist Centre, raised concerns regarding the absence of investigations into leaders from the Nepali Congress and CPN UML implicated in a cooperative fraud scandal.
While speaking at the warning assembly in Kathmandu, Dahal criticized the political bias in arresting only opposition leader Rabi Lamichhane, while ignoring Congress and UML leaders found guilty by parliamentary committees.
Bagmati Province witnesses 191 deaths due to natural disasters
In the last three months of the current fiscal year 2081/82, Bagmati Province reported 191 deaths across ten districts, excluding the Kathmandu Valley, attributed to floods, landslides, inundation, and fires.
The Bagmati Province Police Office in Hetauda revealed that 177 fatalities occurred following heavy rainfall on September 27 and 28, leading to severe flooding and landslides.
Superintendent of Police Durgaraj Regmi noted that 157 individuals lost their lives in landslides, while 11 were victims of flooding, and nine drowned during this period.
Two die in road accident
A road accident in Sattale, Tulsipur Municipality-3, on Saturday morning resulted in the deaths of two people and left three others injured.
The incident occurred when a passenger jeep (Ra. 1 Ja. 822), traveling from Salyan to Tulsipur, plunged about 300 meters down a hillside.
The deceased have been identified as 22-year-old Hiramani Budhamagar from Baibang in Dangisharan Rural Municipality-4 and 19-year-old Suresh Khadka from Kapurkot Rural Municipality-6 in Salyan.
CEDAW expresses concern over women and children’s rights in Afghanistan
The Convention on the Elimination of All Forms of Discrimination against Women (CEDAW) has called for the protection of fundamental rights for women and girls in Afghanistan.
CEDAW highlighted the importance of ensuring Afghan women and children have access to education, employment, and public spaces, as stipulated in the convention.
Bandana Rana, a CEDAW member and Chair of the Working Group on Afghanistan, expressed deep concern over the significant regression in the rights of women and children in Afghanistan during a meeting at the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Switzerland.
PM Oli urges robust stand on climate issues in upcoming COP-29
Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli reiterated that Nepal would eloquently enhance advocacies on climate action, highlighting climate change impacts from mountain to sea in the impending UN climate conference, COP-29.
The 29th edition of the UN Climate Conference is taking place in Baku of Azerbaijan from November 11 to 22 this year. President Ramchandra Paudel is leading the Nepali delegation to the annual global event.

The ruling parties have issued a joint statement following a meeting held at the Prime Minister’s residence in Baluwatar on Friday.
The statement addresses the government’s first 100 days, current issues, and upcoming plans.
The current government operates with the support and participation of various parties, including Nepali Congress, CPN-UML, Janata amajwadi Party (JSP), Janamat, JSP Nepal, Loktantrik Samajwadi Party, and Nagarik Unmukti Party, based on a seven-point agreement between Nepali Congress and CPN-UML.
Ruling coalition voices objection to “influence” in Rabi Lamichhane investigation
The seven ruling parties have raised serious objections to the recent protests organized by the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) regarding the arrest of RSP Chairman Rabi Lamichhane.
In a joint statement issued on Friday, the coalition—including the Nepali Congress and CPN-UML—expressed concerns about attempts to sway the ongoing investigation into Lamichhane’s case.
The parties emphasized that since an investigation is underway based on the unanimous report from the Parliamentary Special Committee of Inquiry into the Misappropriation of Cooperative Society Savings, 2081, it is crucial that no outside influences disrupt this process.

Power Cuts Affect 34 Industries Amid NEA Line Disputes
Kulman Ghising, Executive Director of the Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA), has disconnected power to 34 industries due to ongoing disputes over dedicated and trunk line usage.
Industrialists claim they are unable to pay their outstanding bills, asserting that while the NEA issued these bills, it has not provided proof of the electricity consumed.
During a recent board meeting, Energy Minister Deepak Khadka intervened, instructing that electricity supply to these industries should not be cut off immediately.
