KATHMANDU: The Federal Probation and Parole Board has put forward a recommendation to grant parole to 285 inmates.
This recommendation emerged from a meeting led by Attorney General Ramesh Badal, which considered a proposal from the Department of Prison Management.
The initiative aims to enable prisoners with good behavior to receive parole under Section 38 of the Criminal Offenses (Determination and Execution of Punishment) Act, 2074 BS.
Suryaraj Dahal, Joint Attorney at the Office of the Attorney General, stated that convicts who have been sentenced to over one year and have completed at least two-thirds of their sentence while exhibiting good conduct qualify for parole.
Nonetheless, the Act excludes individuals convicted of life sentences, as well as those guilty of corruption, extortion, human trafficking, smuggling, organized crime, money laundering, torture, cruel or inhumane treatment, crimes against humanity, and offenses against the state from receiving parole.
