Durga Prasai presented in court for extension of remand

KATHMANDU: Medical entrepreneur Durga Prasai, who was arrested on charges related to cybercrime, has been produced before the Kathmandu District Court for an extension of his remand.

The court has taken him to the court for an extension of his remand after the court had earlier granted him five days of detention for investigation.

Prasai was arrested by the Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) at his residence in Bhaktapur last Tuesday after a ‘controversial statement’ against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli. He is also being investigated for money laundering, including cybercrime.

KATHMANDU: Durga Prasai, a medical entrepreneur, who was arrested on the charges of cyber crime, has been produced before the District Court, Kathmandu for extension of judicial custody.

The Central Investigation Bureau (CIB) of Nepal Police presented alleged Prasai in the court, confirmed SP Hobindra Bogati, also Spokesperson at the CIB.

SP Bogati shared, “Prasai was brought to the Court after he was detained for further investigation into his alleged involvement in cyber-crime related offence.

He added that investigation into the case will be taken forward once the court orders extension for his judicial remand.

Prasai was arrested by a team of CIB on Tuesday for purportedly circulating malicious and defamatory contents against Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli in social media.
