WASHINGTON DC: Former U.S. President Jimmy Carter, who was a peanut farmer and Georgia’s state governor before his presidency, has passed away at the age of 100.

Carter took office on January 20, 1977, and vowed to lead a “government as good as its people.”

His presidency spanned four challenging years, marked by rising inflation and increasing unemployment, which hindered his domestic agenda.

On the international stage, he achieved notable successes, including facilitating the peace agreement between Egypt and Israel and securing the Panama Canal treaty.

However, his presidency was overshadowed by the Iran hostage crisis, which played a significant role in his loss during the 1980 election.

Carter often remarked that the end of his presidency in 1981 marked the start of a new chapter in his life, during which he traveled the globe to fight disease, promote peace, and build hope.
