KATHMANDU: The Agriculture Information and Training Centre has said that only 47.7 percent of the total farmers in the country have been enlisted in the government system.

At a province-level seminar organized by the Centre about farmers’ enlistment, Chief of the Centre and Joint Secretary Dr Ramanandan Tiwari said the Centre has received the responsibility for online system management and operation by collecting the details of the farmers’ enlistment.

He said that the system is a collaborative effort of all three layers of government which aims at ensuring transparency on services to be given to the farmers as well as to promote good governance.

Likewise, it is aimed at formulating objective plans and programmes by identifying the real farmers.

The Centre stated that a total of 1.97 million farmers were listed in the system from across the country as of January 15.

According to the National Sample Census of Agriculture 2078 BS, the number of farmers’ households in the country is more than 4.13 million.
