KATHMANDU: St. Xavier’s College successfully concluded its 10th SXC Mini Marathon on Sunday, bringing together people from all walks of life, including individuals with disabilities, senior citizens and participants from every age group. With the theme “Stride for Inclusion, Run for Change” the event’s goal is to ignite a sense of purpose and inclusivity, especially among the youth, as they rallied together for a cause that promotes positive societal change.
The event was inaugurated by National footballer Anjan Bista and the founder of Meltdown Tenzing Dhanden Gurung. Focusing on the broader impact of marathon, Bista, emphasized, “this isn’t just about running; it’s about bringing people together across generations and inspiring them to be agents of change. Marathons like these energize communities and remind us of our collective power to make a difference.”
The Chief Guest, a prominent Nepali Actor Anoop Bikram Shahi Thakuri, stressed on the importance of personal and societal health. “When individuals are healthy, their families thrive. And when families are healthy, society flourishes. A healthy society is the foundation for a healthy nation, and events like this help us build that foundation.”
St. Xavier’s College has been organizing the marathon for almost a decade now, and this 10th SXC Mini Marathon is in addition to all the previous successful marathons.“ St. Xavier’s Marathon is a meaningful step toward creating a more inclusive and respectful society. It is also a day we all come together for a cause through a fulfilling day.” said Father Augustine Thomas S.J, Principal at St. Xavier’s College. With this Mini Marathon, St Xavier’s College aimed to inspire and unite young minds of the society to collectively promote inclusion, he further added.
This year’s marathon attracted over 800 participants, covering a 10-kilometers route from St. Xavier’s College, passing through key areas such as Tripureshwor, Ratna Park, Lainchaur, and Bhadrakali.The funds raised through ticket sales and sponsorships will go towards the establishment of a library in schools of marginalized communities, promoting educational access and addressing social gaps.
