BAGLUNG: The orange production in Baglung district this year is valued at Rs 264.6 million.
Although production has slightly decreased, farmers have benefited from higher prices compared to the previous year.
The total output dropped by 28 metric tons from last year, but the income for orange farmers increased by Rs 18.6 million, thanks to higher selling prices this year, stated Santosh Adhikari, Information Officer at the Agricultural Knowledge Center in Baglung.
While 4,100 metric tons of oranges were produced last year, production this year stands at 4,071 metric tons.
Despite the reduction in quantity, the price per kilogram rose from Rs 60 last year to Rs 65 this year. In the previous year, oranges worth Rs 246 million were sold from the district.
Adhikari explained that the decline in production this year is attributed to inadequate rainfall and limited winter irrigation.
The Agricultural Knowledge Center reports that oranges are grown across 655 hectares in the district.
Of this, 377 hectares produced fruit this year. Orange cultivation is spread across Baglung Municipality, Kathekhola Rural Municipality, Jaimini Municipality, and Galkot Municipality.
