KATHMANDU: The road cleanup programme was conducted during the Holi festival in Thamel, Kathmandu.

NTT DOCOMO, Colorbath Japan, and IGC Business Holding organized the campaign in collaboration with the Thamel Tourism Development Board as part of their Clean Hero Project.

“This initiative, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), aims to promote better waste management and environmental sustainability in Nepal,” the organizers claimed.

During the event, representatives from the organizing companies shared insights from their recent visit to the Sisdol landfill site, highlighting the urgent need to separate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste to prevent long-term environmental harm.

The Clean Hero Project is focused on raising awareness about the importance of waste separation, recycling, and environmental conservation.

Volunteers, including locals, tourists, and company representatives participated in the cleanup initiate.

The partner companies are developing a mobile application to encourage waste separation and recycling. The app, currently in its pilot phase, will connect households, restaurants, hotels, and bars with waste collection companies, making it easier for them to manage waste responsibly.

The organizers have planned to expand the Clean Hero Project to other parts of Nepal and finalize the waste management app for nationwide use, it is said.
